Access to remedy - Joint industry efforts towards remedy (December 2023)

English webinar on step 6 of the due diligence process: . Organized by the SER together with the Initiative for Global Solidarity (IGS), project implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

This webinar is aimed at generating more knowledge and awareness about industry-wide efforts on collaborative grievance mechanisms. Topics covered include international and regional expectations on remediation, grievance mechanisms and the role of collaborative approaches and how collaborative efforts can support remediation processes by pooling industry’s leverage and implementing a joint approach.

Companies HPE and Zeeman share their approach and experiences by discussing the advantages and challenges of collaborative initiatives on remediation and how they can complement companies’ complaint mechanisms or efforts to strengthen in-factory or local grievance mechanisms.

Access to Remedy - Integrating worker voices into grievance mechanisms (September 2023)

English webinar on step 6 of the due diligence process: Organized by the SER together with the Initiative for Global Solidarity (IGS), project implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

This webinar discusses how to help companies improving access to remedy for their stakeholders. Topics covered in this webinar include the importance of establishing grievance mechanisms at an early stage, involving local stakeholders (representing the voices of workers and other rights holders) and the role local stakeholders can play in successful recovery and application of due diligence. It also provides an overview of potential local stakeholders and rights holders to be involved and key aspects of meaningful engagement in the access to remedy process to strengthen worker voice. Electronics Watch and IndustiAll share successful examples of collaborating and increasing opportunities for access to remedy in the supply chain, through collaboration with local stakeholders.

Access to Remedy - Sharing responsibility with suppliers (June 2023)

This webinar focuses on strengthening collaboration with suppliers for improving remediation and strengthening grievance mechanism structures at the supplier level. It provides information on the international expectations and standards for suppliers when it comes to remediation and grievance handling. In the webinar different companies share their experiences on how their grievance mechanism operates and how they support their suppliers to improve remediation.

This webinar discusses the knowledge companies’ need about redress and grievance mechanisms, with a focus on grievance mechanisms in the supply chain. Interview David Kovick (Shift) - Access to Remedy & the Remedy Ecosystem approach (November 2020)

In this video, David Kovick explains the concept of access to remedy and elaborates on what is expected of companies from a UNGPs point of view. Using concrete examples, he also discusses what the remedy ecosystem approach entails, and how access to remedy can be put into practice. Thereby equipping viewers with a broad understanding of the concept and providing them with ideas on how companies and other stakeholders (individually or collectively) can provide and/or support meaningful pathways to remediation for potential victims of severe human rights and environmental impacts in supply chains.


Interview Maartje van Putten (NCP) about the role of the NCP in providing access to remedy (November 2020)

In this interview, Maartje van Putten discusses the role of the National Contact Point (NCP) for OECD Guidelines in enabling remediation for corporate human rights abuses. She elaborates on the NCP process and what happens when a company is involved in an NCP procedure. She also touches upon the changes that occur in company’s behavior after it has gone through a procedure. After watching this interview, viewers will understand how the individual complaint procedure of the NCP functions as one of the remedy pathways, and how the NCP procedure relates to other grievance mechanisms, as well as to the international RBC agreements.


Workshop ‘Access to remedy in the garments and textile sector’ (November 2020)

This video was recorded during an online event on access to remedy, organised by the SER and the Dutch National Contact Point, supported by Shift and provides insight into the practical problems purchasing companies encounter when trying to provide access to remedy for rights-holders in their supply chains, and how various companies address such problems. Clarification how the Agreement on Sustainable Garment and Textiles promotes access to remedy, and how this leads to a better understanding of the essentials of the concept.

Workshop ‘Access to remedy in the extractives sector’ (November 2020)

This video was recorded during an online event on access to remedy, organised by the SER and the Dutch National Contact Point, supported by Shift and aims to provide the viewer with a better understanding regarding practical measures both upstream and downstream companies can take in order to be able to provide for or contribute to remediation in accordance with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines for multinational enterprises. It also contains insights on how trade unions, NGOs and the government can facilitate access to remedy at the downstream level. Last but not least it touches upon how the different RBC agreements could work together to promote and implement access to remedy.

Workshop ‘Access to remedy in the agro food sector’ (November 2020)

This video was recorded during an online event on access to remedy, organised by the SER and the Dutch National Contact Point, supported by Shift and explains how value chain partners can successfully cooperate to come to an inclusive system which effectively enables access to remedy to those who experience negative impacts. It discusses the roles different parties along the value chain should and can play, also considering their specific contexts. Finally, it looks at existing mechanisms (pathways to remedy) and their role in providing access to remedy. Specific attention is paid to the role of Dutch businesses in their efforts regarding access to remedy, to the international RBC agreements.
