Tjeerd Jegen is a Dutch national with extensive global retail experience. Since April 2015 he is the CEO of HEMA, an international retailer with more than 740 stores in seven countries, 18,000 employees and around 32,000 products and services. HEMA was founded in 1926 and is headquartered in Amsterdam.
He graduated from the Erasmus University (the Netherlands) as a Master of Science in Business Administration (drs. Bedrijfskunde) and he attended the Haas School of Business of the University of California at Berkeley (USA).
Tjeerd started his professional career with supermarket chain Albert Heijn in the Netherlands in 1995. After six years he moved to sister companies of Albert Heijn in Poland and the Czech Republic (Ahold) where he held senior commercial roles (1995-2006). After his time with Ahold, his positions included Managing Director in Romania for the German Metro Group (2007-2009).
For British supermarket chain Tesco he was COO in Thailand (2009-2010) and CEO in Malaysia (2010-2011). Most recently he was Managing Director of the Australian supermarket chain Woolworths (2011-2015). In April 2015, he returned to the Netherlands and was appointed CEO of HEMA.
Tjeerd (48) is married with two children. He is passionate about exercising (cycling and bootcamp) and growing companies whilst having a positive impact on the environment in which they operate.
