Dr. Véronique Timmerhuis studied social history and sociology at Erasmus University Rotterdam. She began working for the AWT, the Advisory Council for Science and Technology Policy, in 1998, where she held the position of Secretary/Director.
Previously, she spent nine years with IVA (Institute for Social Policy Research), which is part of Tilburg University.

Véronique Timmerhuis received her doctorate from Tilburg University in 1997. She has been Secretary-General of the Social and Economic Council since 1 February 2007.
