Europe There are economic and social councils (ESC’s) and similar institutions in several European countries. Consultation between the ESC’s within the European Union takes place on a regular basis. In addition to that, the Union’s European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) operates at EU level. You will find in-depth information on this topic on CESlink, the portal of the EESC and the national social and economic councils in Europe.
World Also in countries outside Europe economic and social councils can be found. On 1 July 1999 – partly on the initiative of the Netherlands ESC - the International Association of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions (AICESIS) was founded. The objective of the association is to encourage dialogue and exchanges between its members and to promote the establishment of economic and social partners in other countries too. The association has members in Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin-America.
